CANCELLATION
Those wanting to visit Manihiki need to plan at least a week on the island. Flights operate once a week but there are instances where flights may be disrupted due to bad weather between Rarotonga and Manihiki. Everyone is encouraged to purchase adequate Travel Insurance to cover any disruption to travel. This is a fantastic way to discover a small part of the world that has not see much change over the years.
Before departing for Manihiki -here are few pointers to remember
:
Manihiki is a remote atoll island with limited facilities. Electricity supply is limited to approximately 10 hours a day with families using generators to supply electricity for the balance of the day. Nearly everyone on the island is involved in the production of Black Pearls. Here, visitors to the island have plenty of opportunities to experience the Black Pearl Culture and see how the family farms operate.
Whatever you decide to do while on Manihiki, you need to remember that this is not a five star resort island. There are no department stores, restaurants or fast food takeaways available. In fact this is as far away from the world as you can get.
Things to Bring with you:
All your favourite snacks. Shops here may not store your favourite foods. If you rely on special medication, please ensure you bring enough to last your stay on Manihiki. Ensure also that you have good reef and walking shoes, snorkelling gear and plenty of sun protection lotion.
There are no Credit Card Facilities on the island. Please ensure that you have enough cash on hand. You can open an account at the local bank if you are staying longer on the island.
